History
The church-schoolhouse was built in 1910. In 1941 the activities of the church ended - the building was left without an owner and deteriorated.
In 1957 the building was renovated into a recreation center and during that time the center tower was pulled down and the original floorplan was changed. The building functioned as a recreation center until 1991.

In 1996 the building was returned to it's previous owners the Estonian Apostolic Orthodox Church. However at that time there were only few members left in the congrecation and the activities of the church did not resume and the house was left unused.
In 2003 a development plan for the Kõrgesaare village was confirmed with the most important aim to restore the community center.
In 2006 a preliminary contract was signed between the Estonian Apostolic Orthodox Church and the village accosiation "Valguskiir" for the free use of the building with the condition of building a small chapel and living quarters for the parson.

Current state: under construction
Project
The aim of the restauration project was to foresee the required works to stop any future deteration of the building and change the floor plan, so that the building can be used as a village cultural house and a meeting place for the currently small congregation.
The new tower will situate on the same spot as the old one but will (at this moment) be reconstructed without the church bell and the cross. The tower will be reconstructed as close to the original by using similar constructive methods and materials at the time the original tower was built.
